It is my birthday week so I thought I would do something a little different for Tuesday Tunes.
This week, I am posting not just one song but a playlist of 8 songs that were on the Billboard Hot 100 (or Billboard’s Hot Country Songs list) in my birth year. These are all songs I grew up listening to that to this day I enjoy listening to.
- Ricky Skaggs – I Wouldn’t Change You If I Could
- Reba McEntire – Can’t Even Get The Blues
- Alabama – The Closer You Get
- Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton – Islands In The Stream
- Dexys Midnight Runners – Come On Eileen
- Naked Eyes – Always Something There To Remind Me
- Men At Work – Down Under
- Toni Basil – Mickey
Until next time. xoxo
This week’s song is a new find for me. It popped up in my YouTube recommendations list. As I listened to it the first time, not only did I like it as far as genre/style but the lyrics got to me. Had I any musical talent whatsoever it’s a song I could have written myself.
I actually discovered this song due to the official video being shown on youtube as an ad. Normally I skip an ad as soon as the skip button is activated but at the time i was preoccupied with something else so just let it play and I ended up loving the song. When the live acoustic version was uploaded I was curious what this girl sounds like minus the bells and whistles of a production studio. I was pleasantly surprised that she’s actually very talented and the live version is wonderful.
As a bonus video this week, here is the official video for the song, as well. Seems fair to include it, since it is what introduced me to this talented young lady’s music. And I have to say the concept of the video is fantastic and matches the lyric meaning so perfectly, it’s definitely worth watching.
