Go Ahead & Like It by Jacqueline Suskin
This book is not what I was expecting.
Described as “… an instructional guide, a personal record, and an inspiring prompt for daily appreciation.” I was expecting something more journal-like. I expected example lists and perhaps some prompts, and empty pages with which to write one’s own lists. There is only one such page at the end of the book. The rest is filled with snapshots and examples of lists, and a few notes from the author on why she writes her own lists of likes.
I do like the general format. It has a look of hand written notes, pictures and scraps of paper taped into a journal for safe keeping. It has the journal look I expected it to have. It simply is not actually a journal as expected.
I don’t feel it is worth the $17 price tag. I like the idea behind it of try to find simple little things you like even in the most mundane daily situations (like being stuck in traffic, for example) but that idea alone scarcely makes a worthwhile book. I feel had it been the journal I was expecting it would be more worth it.
